A, seal the South West 1 title with four games to spare.

In a closely contested encounter, Duchy started on the back foot as the young Plymouth side executed a good press and hassled the league leaders. Duchy frequently relinquished possession and after several near-misses from the home side eventually paid the price when Marjon smashed home a sublime dragflick from a penalty corner to lead 1-0.

It took until the final ten minutes of the half for Duchy to gain a foothold in the game with improved passing and ball retention; however the equaliser came from a moment of brilliance from Max Chippett, who cut in from the byline and - after beating two Marjon defenders - lashed in a reverse stick effort from the egde of the circle which cannonned off both uprights before finding the net.

Half time allowed Duchy to re-set and the second half saw a more organised performance, although the match was still largely end-to-end with Marjon posing a constant threat. Two goals mid-way through the half - both from Martin Crump - would ultimately seal the win, with Crump first smahing home a rebound from his own saved shot before taking the lead to 3-1 four minutes later after guiding home a Rick Searle pass from point blank range.

With five minutes remaining the home side halved the arrears, firing home a well worked goal for 3-2 to make for a tense ending to the match. Duchy clung on, and with third-placed East Devon B recording their own 3-2 victory over second placed O.P.M. A, Duchy were assured of the title.

There now remain four league matches for Duchy to negotiate in search of the holy grail of an undeafeated season.
Stuart Richardson Mon, 25 Feb 2019 09:56:06 +0000 http://duchyhockeyclub.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/mens_2s_win_sw1 http://duchyhockeyclub.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/mens_2s_win_sw1 Lee Selby hits Century of Goals
Lee Selby scored a hat-trick for Men's 2s against former club Bodmin to bring up his 100th goal for the club.

Lee scored his 100th exactly six years to the day after his first, which came on his debut v PGSOB B. Since then, Lee has played 128 matches for Duchy, scoring 35 goals for the 1st XI, 64 for the 2nd XI, and one for the Mixed XI.

Huge congratulations to Lee from everyone at the club
Stuart Richardson Mon, 01 Oct 2018 13:47:41 +0100 http://duchyhockeyclub.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/lee_selby_century http://duchyhockeyclub.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/lee_selby_century Duchy's Men Win Thrilling Final to Lift Pre-Season Trophy
Duchy came from a goal down to beat Caradon 2-1 in the final and claim their first CHA Pre-Season Tournament title.

A 2-0 victory over Truro in the first match of the day set Duchy on their way to the final, with Richard Swann opening the scoring within a minute before Alfie Budge made it 2-0 mid-way through the 25-minute match - both goals coming after flowwing passing moves from the side in black-and white.

Duchy's second match was an acrimoneous affair against Bodmin, in which Duchy dominated but failed to score. Bodmin were reduced to ten players when goalkeeper Robin Craig was sin-binned for an appauling two-footed tackle on Richard Swann, however stand-in 'keeper Niall Parkinson did well to save Ben Flint's penalty stroke; and the Bodmin goal survived unscathed until Craig returned to the field. Duchy were breifly reduced to nine men when Fordham and Barbery were both shown green, however remained in the ascendency; yet were still unable to breach the Bodmin lines - the best chance falling to Stu Richardson moments from full time, who deflected a cross straight at Craig.

By the mid-way points of the competition, both Duchy and Caradon looked odds-on to reach the final; and Duchy secured their spot with a 3-0 victory over Penzance in their third fixture. Virgis Sedvydis led the line with two goals - again a result of quick-fire Duchy passing - before Budge capitalised on a loose ball in the Penzance circle to sweep in a third.

With Caradon hammering Truro 5-1 in the subsequent match, the line up for the final was set, leaving an odd scenario which saw Duchy and Caradon contest a dead-rubber; before taking to the field against one another again for the final. First blood went to Caradon, who won the final group game 2-0 with Duchy clearly focussing on the knockout match to come.

The final proved to be an end to end affair, with Duchy taking an early lead through Budge who slammed home a Tom Marmoy cross from the right, however Caradon quickly equalised with a venemous penalty corner for 1-1. With ten minutes remaining, captain, Ben Flint slammed a shot into the roof of the net for 2-1 to Duchy before missing a gilt-edged change to wrap up the match - hitting the upright from three yards out. The final exchanges saw Caradon lay seige to the Duchy goal, but a fine save from Toby Walker in goal, followed by a last ditch tackle from Ben Moran saw Duchy cling on to claim the title.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Results | Group Stage

2-0 v Truro (Swann, Budge)

0-0 v Bodmin

3-0 v Penzance (Sedvydis 2, Budge)

0-2 v Caradon

Table | Group Stage

1st | Caradon | 12pts

2nd | Duchy | 7pts

3rd | Bodmin | 5pts

4th | Penzane | 3pts

5th | Truro | 1pt

Result | Final

2-1 v Caradon (Swann, Flint)
Stuart Richardson Mon, 17 Sep 2018 13:41:08 +0100 http://duchyhockeyclub.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/cha_pst_win http://duchyhockeyclub.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/cha_pst_win Rod Wall Memorial Tournament
There was a fitting start to Duchy's 10th Season on Saturday, with an Inter-club tournament in memory of club founder and first Chairman, Rod Wall; who passed away just over a year ago.

The friendly competition saw saw three close matches with the trophy eventually shared between Team Richardson and Team Chippett.

At the end of the hockey, the club were delighted to present Rod's Family with a framed Duchy shirt memorial commemorating Rod and his contribution to the club; which will be given a home at The Countryman Inn.

#ThankyouRod #HockeyFamily

Stuart Richardson Tue, 28 Aug 2018 09:58:30 +0100 http://duchyhockeyclub.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/remduchy_start_10th_season_with_memorial_tournamen http://duchyhockeyclub.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/remduchy_start_10th_season_with_memorial_tournamen
